凋亡细胞的清除对组织稳态和炎症的修复很关键。MerTK是巨噬细胞表面的一类蛋白质,它能够调节炎症修复,效应细胞增生。通过与凋亡细胞表面翻转的磷酯酰丝氨酸结合,能够发生吞噬作用。此外,巨噬细胞还能够抑制NF-KB信号通路。有研究表明,MerTK信号能够促进SPM(炎症损伤修复过程依赖于特定的调节因子)的合成。MerTK 在静息巨噬细胞中及免疫抑制期间是作为一种耐受性受体。它属于酪氨酸激酶受体中的TAM家族,在组织巨噬细胞中表达。因此,MerTK和CD64的双重表达正成为巨噬细胞的界定标准,并帮助将组织巨噬细胞从树突状细胞中区分出来。
MerTK能调节巨噬细胞活化,促进凋亡细胞的吞噬,帮助血小板聚集,并维持体内血块的稳定。MerTK在多种类型的癌症中会发生过表达或异位表达,如白血病、非小细胞肺癌、黑色素瘤和前列腺癌等,这可能会导致若干典型的致癌信号传导途径的活化。
